Grief and Loss
In human existence, loss is inevitable. We will all suffer loss at one time or another. Being able to process that loss and give it a voice is a valuable tool. Whether it is loss because of a divorce, a break up, a death, and ending of a job, or a significant change in physical abilities, all grief needs to have a voice.
Healthy Boundaries
Learning to say “ no “ can be one of the most difficult tasks an individual can achieve. Setting clear, healthy boundaries is about knowing our limits and teaching others how to respect our limits. We can learn how to teach others to respect out time, our energy, our money, and the way we are treated. We can begin to do this without feeling guilty and without hurting others.
Self-Esteem
Healthy self-esteem is knowing that we are capable, effective, worthy. Healthy self-esteem is not narcissism. It is knowing one’s self, knowing one’s strengths and weaknesses, and not allowing others to tell us who we are nor what we are ( are not) capable of doing. Learning to have a healthy self-esteem is not an easy task. But, undoing hurtful messages from the past is possible.
Communication Skills
Communication takes many forms. As humans, we have multiple avenues in which to communicate our thoughts and emotions to others. We employ body language, tone of voice, written communication, verbal communication, and (sometimes) the silent treatment as means to get our point across. We can learn new ways to effectively share our thoughts, feelings, desires, and boundaries with others so as to help get the things we need and want.
Stress Management
There is no way to live in this life without experiencing some type of stress. Stressors are unavoidable. We can learn effective skills to manage stress and how we cope with stress. Through Mindfulness exercises, Relaxation and Body work exercises, using the power of the breath, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques, learn how to diminish negative responses to stress.
